FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Saint Leo women's basketball team took it to the No. 10 Nova Southeastern squad, but the shooting stroke of the nationally ranked Sharks was too much for Lions down the stretch, as NSU used a 28-13 advantage in the fourth quarter to take the game 79-64.
Saint Leo was led by Chelsy Springs with 19 points, and Mary Redmond followed with 16. The Lions also grabbed 17 offensive rebounds, and saw that turn into 16 second chance points.

1Q | The Lions jumped on Nova Southeastern early in the period, showing their aggressiveness inside. Abby Peterson returned for her first start in the last five games, and put up six points. Her fellow forwards in Chelsy Springs and Alysia Johnson each added four points, making up 14 of the teams 16 points. 2Q | The Sharks came out in the second quarter firing, hitting three-straight three's to take the lead. They expanded their led to as much as seven points, but the Lions fought back behind nine points from Mary Redmond. The Lions also used free throw line success, going 9 of 10 from the line. 3Q | The back and forth trend continued as it took over a minute and a half for either team to hit their first shot. Once the bank was opened, both teams traded possessions. Springs did her part, adding seven points in the quarter, giving the Lions a 49-46 advantage. 4Q | Nova Southeastern used a 12-0 run to open the final quarter, before Saint Leo connected on its first basket at the 6:12 mark. Ultimately, it was that run that separated the game as the Lions were never able to get within more than 12 points. - Springs recorded her sixth-straight double-figure performance, and her 16th of the season.
- Redmond's 16 points was her ninth double-digit performance, and her ninth game hitting two or more three-point field goals.
- The Lions shot 90.9-percent from the free throw line, but only attempted one in the second half.
For the Sharks
- Three players scored in double figures for the Sharks, led by Molly Blomer who had 18. Taylor Buie followed with 17, and Kayla Wright finished with 10.
- The Sharks dished out 15 assists. They also connected on 15 of 19 from the free throw line.
