SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo women's basketball received a game-high 18 points and 11 rebounds from junior Chelsy Springs and double-digit performances from freshman Izabell Skoogh and sophomore Mary Redmond, but it was not nearly enough to overcome a hot-shooting Embry-Riddle squad that posted a 68-50 win over the Lions, Wednesday night at the Marion Bowman Activities Center.
The Eagles shot 43.1 percent (22-of-51) from the floor, and did most of their damage in the third quarter. ERAU outscored Saint Leo 28-11 in the third frame, connecting on eight of 13 attempts from the field.

How It Happened…
1Q | Embry-Riddle led by as many as six in the first quarter, before Chelsy Springs knocked down a pair of free throws in the final minute to cut the margin to four points. The Lions put the game's first points on the board through an Izabell Skoogh layup; after a layup and then a three-pointer by Sabrina Whiting, Mary Redmond knotted things up at 5-5 with a three-point bucket of her own. The Eagles went on a 7-0 run lasting just over three minutes to take their lead. | ERAU 12-8 |
2Q | Saint Leo was held off the board for over five minutes to start the second quarter, but not for lack of trying. The Lions put up 10 shots before Jone Akins' jumper at the 4:40 mark fell to end the scoreless spell, but not before Embry-Riddle added seven points to their tally to take a 19-8 lead. Akins' shot brought the Lions back to within nine. Redmond added a pair of foul shots with 4:00 remaining, and Springs tacked on a jumper with just under a minute and a half showing on the clock. | ERAU 24-14 |
3Q | Embry-Riddle shot 61.5 percent (8-of-13) from the field during the third quarter and opened with a 16-0 run to take a commanding 40-14 lead over Saint Leo. Whiting and Jorge each tallied six points during the Eagles' surge, which lasted for over five minutes. Spring connected on a pair of free throws with 4:03 left in the frame to break the Embry-Riddle run. Alysia Johnson converted two more attempts at the line with 2:10 to play, and Springs, Johnson, and Skoogh all made jumpers in the final minute to cut the Eagles' lead to 52-25 at the end of the quarter. | ERAU 52-25 |
4Q | The shots that had not gone Saint Leo's way all night finally began to fall for the Lions in the fourth quarter. The Lions took a huge bite out of Embry-Riddle's lead with a 9-0 run midway through the frame, and Saint Leo cut a 27-point margin down to an 18-point deficit, 56-38, with 4:29 to play. Saint Leo got as close as 16 points to catching ERAU, 61-45, following a pair of Asia Royster free throws, but the Eagles went 8-of-10 at the foul line over the final four minutes to protect their lead and wrap-up the win. | ERAU 68-50 |
