Women's lacrosse falls to No. 10 Rollins, 14-5

Box Score

WINTER PARK, Fla. – 10th-ranked Rollins College built a six-goal lead in the first half and went on to post a 14-5 win over the Saint Leo women's lacrosse team, in a Sunshine State Conference matchup Friday night at Barker Family Stadium.

Saint Leo moved to 7-5 overall, and evened its SSC mark at 1-1. Rollins improved to 9-3 overall, 2-1 in league play.

Abbie Ross got the Lions on the scoreboard first with her unassisted goal just 23 seconds into the game, but that was the only lead Saint Leo would hold in the game.

Just under six minutes later, Tyler Thomas answered with two goals for the Tars in the span of 17 seconds and Rollins led the rest of the way. Thomas' second goal off an assist from Angelica Perdomo gave the Tars a 2-1 lead, which became a 3-1 lead on a Kristina Coppolino free position goal just under a minute later.

Rollins' lead reached 7-1 on a Coppolino goal at the 6:35 mark of the first half. Katherine Larson and Caroline Fraser each scored for Saint Leo before the end of the half, but the Tars went into the break with a 9-3 advantage.

The Tars added five more goals in the second half for a 14-3 lead before the Lions could add to their total. Kelsey Burns found the back of the net off a feed from Alix Murray with 9:23 showing on the game clock.

Kelly Smigiera capped the scoring with Saint Leo's fifth goal of the game with 2:02 remaining to play.

Rollins outshot the visiting Lions, 38-15, and had 16 draw controls to Saint Leo's five. The Lions did outperform the Tars on groundballs, 19-3.

Brittany Millsap and Kaylyn Kearns combined for 13 saves in the Saint Leo goal, while Rollins' Malorie Olin charted five stops.

Saint Leo returns to action on Tuesday, April 7, at 7:00 p.m. when it travels to Lakeland, Fla., to take on No. 4 Florida Southern.
