Sieber's two home runs not enough in Lions loss

SAINT LEO, Fla.- Senior day ended bittersweet for the Saint Leo baseball team as they dropped both games of the doubleheader to visiting Florida Southern College by scores of 12-2 and 12-9 at Thomas B. Southard Stadium.

The Lions drop to 29-10 on the season and 10-8 in the Sunshine State Conference while the Moccasins improve to 17-17 on the season and 6-9 in the SSC.

Highlighting the day for the Lions was first baseman Troy Sieber who went 3-for-4 in game one and then produced a 2-for-3 effort in game two including two, two-run home runs totaling four RBI on the day. Sophomore Dylan Harris added his own two-run home run to get the Green and Gold on the board in the bottom of the first in game two. Harris finished up 2-for-6 with two runs scored and two RBI.

Out of the lead-off spot, senior Nick Perez produced a multi-hit effort in all three games this weekend boosting his batting average to .402 on the year. In game two today he went 3-6 with two runs scored.

In game one, starter Liam O'Sullivan (7-4) spread five runs on seven hits over 6.0 innings pitched while registering seven strikeouts.  The Lions' bullpen allowed seven runs on seven hits in the final three frames.

Getting the game one win was Craig Savage (3-3). He pitched 5.0 innings allowing five hits and two runs. A.J Smith earned his second save of the season giving up just three hits in 4.0 innings pitched.

Game two saw starter Jordan Pendleton go a strong 6.0 innings collecting four strikeouts and allowing three runs on seven hits. Josh Mollett picked up the loss however as he came on in the 10th and saw the Mocs pick up three runs on three hits for the extra innings victory.

Florida Southern starter Brady Arenson gets a no decision after giving up six runs on seven hits through 5.0 innings. Casey Eskew moved to 1-2 on the season after earning the win with 4.0 innings of relief allowing just one hit.

The Green and Gold will travel to Barry University for their next three game SSC matchup beginning Friday, April 17 at 6:00 p.m.
