SAINT LEO, Fla. – With an 11-1 evening romp, the Saint Leo University softball team routed Eckerd in five-innings Friday at the University Softball Stadium.
The Lions improve to 31-12 and 7-9 in the Sunshine State Conference while the visiting Tritons fall to 28-14 with an 8-11 tally SSC matchups.
The Green and Gold unloaded eight runs in the first two frames, including six in the opening stanza to jump ahead of Eckerd.
Seniors Adriana Sanders and Angela Kafalas finished with a pair of hits while Michelle George added a multi-hit effort. Kafalas launched her team-leading eighth home run of the season in the second frame, scoring two runs before adding a RBI single in the fourth.
Junior Alana Tabel (14-5) stifled the Eckerd offense, limiting the squad to a pair of hits across the five-inning complete-game. The right-hander allowed a single unearned run while striking out three batters.
Eckerd ace Amber Hay (17-10) was the pitcher of record, recording just two outs in the start, allowing six runs, two earned in the opening inning.
Saint Leo will conclude the series in doubleheader fashion, including a senior day ceremony between games to honor its seven senior softball players. The first game is slated for a 1 p.m. start at University Softball Stadium.
