SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo University softball team fell 5-1 to the visiting Barry University on Monday evening at University Softball Stadium.

The Lions drop to 13-5 on the season with a 0-3 record in Sunshine State Conference play while the Buccaneers finish the series with a 15-5 record, 3-0 in SSC contests.

Senior Adriana Sanders drove in the only run of the game for the Green and Gold, launching a solo home run in the first inning.  The homer was the first of the season for the Saint Leo third-baseman.

Two key hits separated Barry from the Lions, as catcher Dee Espinosa doubled to left center to score a pair of runs in the top of the first.  Four innings later in the fifth, second baseman Kelly Martinez mirrored with a two RBI double to push the game from reach.

Buccaneers hurler Taylor Sabol started in the circle, pitching 3.2 innings, scattering three hits and allowing a single earned run in the no decision. 

Haley Wiseman (8-2) entered the game in the fourth with the bases-loaded, pitching out of a jam to earn the win.  The right-hander tossed 3.1 innings while surrendering a single hit and striking out six batters.

Freshman Samantha Tyler (4-1) was credited with her first loss of the season, allowing five runs, three earned across seven innings of work.  The righty issued three walks and struck out three batters.

The Lions continue conference action with a home series against the University of Tampa.  The first game of the set will be played Friday, March 6 at 6 p.m. and will be followed by a Saturday doubleheader slated for a 1 p.m. start.  Live stats will be available through www.saintleolions.com.
