PENSACOLA, Fla. – Kicking off a busy spring break slate, the No. 3 Saint Leo University women's tennis team handed No. 26 Georgia College a 7-2 defeat at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex on the campus of the University of West Florida, Monday afternoon.
The Lions ascend to 10-2 on the season while the Bobcats dip to an 8-2 overall tally.
Georgia College edged the Green and Gold in doubles action, carrying a 2-1 advantage after tandem play finished. Sophomores Isabella Robbiani and Gabrielle Paul earned the Lions lone doubles win, defeating Macy Polk and Emma Niemi by an 8-2 set.
The Lions got to work, picking up a clean sweep of singles action. Sophomore Anastasia Wagner outdueled Polk by quick 6-1 and 6-4 sets while Marine Beugre-Guyot followed suit, besting Kristen Jones in similar straight-set fashion. Robbiani added a fourth win for the Lions, defeating Camille Clausse-Pujo by a pair of 6-4 sets.
Pauline Helgesson clinched the victory as the junior trumped Niemi behind a 6-3 and 6-1 margin. Both Paula Montoya and Paul finished with victories to seal the match at a 7-2 win for the Green and Gold.
Saint Leo will continue its spring break set with a matchup against No. 7 West Florida on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex.
