Saint Leo bests #20 Bobcats in 6-3 take-down

PENSACOLA, Fla. – Beginning the week with a neutral site win, the No. 8 Saint Leo University men's tennis team trumped No. 20 Georgia College by a 6-3 margin at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex on the campus of the University of West Florida, Monday afternoon.

The Lions climb to 11-3 on the season while the Bobcats dip to a 7-3 overall tally.

The Bobcats concluded doubles play with a 2-1 lead.  Saint Leo duo Guillaume Vanelven and Fons Verberne were the lone Lions to take their doubles flight, besting Pedro Ecenarro and Mattia Campus by an 8-4 set.  The No. 21 Bobcats tandem of Vincent Castermans and Yannick Hass defeated Alex Theiler and Bruno Sisti on the premier court, winning by a close 8-6 margin.

The Lions needed four singles wins to clinch the match, as the team rallied off five to battle the Bobcats to a 6-3 win.  In the top flight of singles play, Egor Panyushkin defeated No. 22 Yannick Hass by 7-5 and 6-3 sets while Theiler outdueled Castermans in familiar straight-sets.

Sisti clinched the match, battling Ecenarro to a 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 victory.  Both Vanelven and Netanel Alcabas came away with wins, the latter forcing a decisive third set.

Saint Leo will continue its spring break set with a matchup against top-ranked West Florida on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex.
