Lions men's basketball triumphs over Rollins

Saint Leo, Fla. – The Saint Leo men's basketball team ran away from Rollins in the second half of Saturday's game to claim a 69-58 victory. The win snapped the Lions four-game losing streak just in time for a two-game road swing.

Saint Leo (12-11, 4-7 SSC) clamped down on defense in the second stanza, limiting Rollins (7-14, 0-10 SSC) to just 33 points en route to a crucial Sunshine State Conference victory in the Marion Bowman Activities Center.

Ron Foxx led the Lions with 15 points and 13 rebounds for his third double-double of the season. Trey Griseck had 13 points in his fourth double-digit performance of his junior year. Marcus Dewberry chipped in 11 points and six assists while Edmunds Dukulis added 10 points thanks to a 6-for-7 effort from the charity stripe.

Both teams flexed their shooting muscles in the first possessions of the game, trading three-pointers, but Saint Leo took a 6-3 advantage and never looked back. Foxx scored nine of his 15 points in the first, leading Saint Leo to a 32-25 lead.

The Lions coasted to a 63-44 advantage in the second half, thanks to a dominant performance in the paint. The Lions battled for every rebound, and scored 13-second chance points on eight offensive boards, five offensive grabs in the second half alone. The 19-point lead would be the largest scoring margin, before the Tars mounted their final charge with just under five minutes to play. Rollins went on a 7-2 run, and held the Lions scoreless for three minutes. Dewberry ended the Tars assault and Saint Leo remained on top for a 69-58 win.

The Green and Gold return to action Wednesday, February 11 at Florida Southern, tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
