BRUNSWICK, Ga. – Kicking off the 2015 season, the No. 3 Saint Leo women's tennis completed a clean sweep of hosting Coastal Georgia, 9-0 on Friday afternoon in the Marta Torrey Tennis Complex.
The victory gives the Lions a 1-0 tally to start the season while the Mariners dip to 0-1 to begin their season.
The sweep began in doubles action as the Green and Gold duos made quick work of the hosting Mariners. The tandem of Paula Montoya and Maria Benkirane defeated Emy Alplund and Daniella Caruso 8-6. Isabella Robbiani and Marine Beugre-Guyot teamed up to take down Freja Rasmussen and Samantha Lasslet by an 8-1 score. The final doubles showdown featured an 8-3 win from Pauline Helgesson and Gabrielle Paul over Alden Minick/Kristina Polakovic.
In singles play, Robbiani headlined a 6-2, 6-3 win over CCGA number one Rasmussen. Each Lion claimed victory over their Mariner counterpart to keep Coastal Georgia scoreless. Both Katherine Zaatini and Coralie Pesenti won their singles matchup, as Zaatini outdueled Lasslett by 6-2, 6-0 scores while Pesenti defeated Minick 6-0 and 6-1.
The Lions will continue its road trip by meeting Armstrong State for a 10 a.m. contest in Savannah, Ga. The Saturday matchup will feature two nationally ranked foes, as ASU is the No. 2 team in the nation.
