SAINT LEO, Fla. - The Saint Leo University women's tennis team earned a clean sweep of Embry-Riddle Thursday afternoon, as the Lions ousted the Eagles 9-0 at the Saint Leo Tennis Complex.
The Green and Gold improve to 5-1 on the season while ERAU concludes the match with a 4-2 record.
To start off the sweep in the doubles round, Anastasia Wagner and Pauline Helgesson defeated Giovanna Tomiotto and Ana Gonzalez Hoy by an 8-3 score. On court two, Gabrielle Paul and Coralie Pesenti retired Paula Ortiz Couder and Kathryn Bock, finishing with an 8-5 score. The top court went to the duo of Isabella Robbiani and Maria Benkirane, who finished with a familiar 8-5 score to keep the Eagles off the board at the conclusion of doubles play.
Singles play saw Paula Montoya defeat Ortiz-Couder by a 6-1 and 6-0 tally, finishing first in the singles round. Robbiani outlasted No. 13 Hui-l Huang by a pair of 6-4 sets while Benkirane battled No. 29 Anna Gotz to a 6-3, 6-3 sweep, clinching the match with the fifth victory.
Marine Beugre-Guyot ousted Giovanna Tomiotto by a 6-2, 6-3 sweep while the remaining two Lions, Paul and Helgesson earned wins for Saint Leo.
The Green and Gold will return to the court on Sunday, as the team continues Sunshine State Conference play with a home match against Nova Southeastern University at 11 a.m.
