Box Score SAINT LEO, Fla.- A 10 run fifth inning helped Saint Leo baseball bury the Eckerd Tritons tonight 19-4 at Thomas B. Southard Stadium in a regional matchup between conference foes.
The offensive explosion was led by second baseman Alex Mata who went an impressive 4-5 with six RBI on the night. His middle infield counterpart Taylor Perez also had a big day at the plate registering five hits in six at bats with three RBI. All of the Lions starters except one touched all the bases tonight at least once.
The Saint Leo batters were able to win tonight with good situational hitting and putting the ball in play. This was just the second game all season the team was held without a home run.
In his first start of the season, Brandon Mumaw picks up the win. The lefty junior out of Wesley Chapel has only made relief appearances to this point in the season, however he exited tonight's contest with 6.0 innings pitched surrendering seven hits, three runs (two earned), no walks, and registering five strikeouts. Though no save opportunity to be recorded, freshman Robbie Cook, junior Jimmie Moore, and sophomore Dylan Collett all received an inning of relief work.
Saint Leo baseball plays their third game in as many days February 26 against the University of Nebraska- Omaha in Port Charlotte, Florida as part of the 2015 Snowbird Classic. A Division I opponent, the Mavs come into the game with a 3-3 record. With tonight's victory the Lions move to 15-1 on the season and are on a six game win streak.
