SAINT LEO, Fla. – Continuing her dominating weekend, sophomore Michelle George led the Saint Leo University softball team to an 11-3 victory over visiting Flagler College on Saturday evening at the University Softball Stadium.
The Lions move to 11-2 on the season after the five-inning win while the Saints sit 4-8 on their 2015 campaign.
First-baseman George ended the day hitting 3-for-4 with three RBI and three runs scored. The sophomore was a home run shy of hitting for the cycle and improves to 9-for-11 on the tournament with nine RBI and eight runs scored.
Senior Adriana Sanders was perfect in her three at bats, adding a triple and a pair of singles while driving in two runs. Fellow senior Angela Kafalas hit a home run in her lone at-bat, driving a ball over the centerfield fence to score a pair of RBI.
Centerfielder McKenzie Burns scored three runs, two hits and a RBI while swiping two bases from the leadoff spot as the Lion offense has forced all three contests of the weekend to end in five innings.
Freshman Samantha Tyler (4-0, 1.42 ERA) tossed the complete game, surrendering three runs off six hits. The right-hander struck out five batters while issuing two walks to pick up her fourth win of the season.
The Green and Gold have outscored its opponents in the SLU Sunshine Invite by an astounding 35-3 margin. The offense has totaled 35 hits over the first three games of the tournament and will look to carry its momentum into the final doubleheader of the weekend against McKendree University, Sunday. The Lions will meet the Bearcats for a 10 a.m. start on Feb. 22nd. Live stats as well as a live video webcast will be made available through www.saintleolions.com.
