Lions fall in final non-conference action to Adelphi

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo women's basketball fell in their final non-conference action of the season to Adelphi University out of Long Island, N.Y., 75-45. The visitors hit an impressive 10 of 18 from the three-point arc, and recorded 14 steals on Saint Leo's 22 turnovers to seal the game.

How It Happened 
1Q | Adelphi jumped out to an early 10-1 lead with 2:44 left to play in the period, but the Lions answered with a 5-2 run to close the period. The Lions out-rebounded the visitors, 11-3, in the period.  | AU 12-6 |


2Q |
The Lions fought to open the second period, tying the game at 12 in the opening minutes. Saint Leo maintained within reach through the halfway point, down just 18-17 with 6:03 to play. However, then Adelphi's offensive took fire, outscoring the Lions 16-0 over the final six minutes. Saint Leo scored six second chance points on three offensive rebounds. The Panthers shot a hot 61.5-percent from the field, including about two of their three-point field goals for the game.  | AU 34-17 |

 The Panthers continued to inflate their lead, jumping out to as much as a 32 points ahead. The Lions shot a nice 50-percent from the field in the third, but they were only able to get off eight shots. Adelphi continued their hot shooting, hitting nine of 14 shots, and going three of four from deep.  | AU 59-27 |

 Saint Leo grabbed five offensive rebounds in the final quarter, converting all into 10 second-chance points. The Lions out-scored Adelphi in the final period, 18-16, getting six points from Asia Royster. The Lions had seven players score in the final period. Adelphi hit three from deep again in the fourth. | AU 75-45 | 

Points to Note

  • Mary Redmond recorded 10 points for her fourth double-digit game of the season. It was also her fourth game with three-plus three-point baskets.
  • Alysia Johnson continued her strong play, nearing a double-double with eight points and nine rebounds. She also added three steals and two blocks in a solid all-around performance.
  • Royster also finished with eight points, adding a team-high four steals and a team-high three assists.
  • The Lions managed to score 17 second-chance points, on 12 offensive rebounds.

For the Panthers

  • Four Panthers scored in the double figures, a game-high 13 coming from Calli Balfour. Both Tara Flynn and Sierra Schrader added 11, and Lauren Nuss added 10.
  • The Panthers dished out a game-high 20 assists, with a game-high four coming from Ashley Gomez. Gomez added four assists and seven points.
  • Adelphi shot an impressive 55.6-percent from deep, on 10 of 18 shooting.
