SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo women's basketball put up a fight on Wednesday night against the undefeated No. 19 Florida Southern Mocs in Sunshine State Conference action, but a huge fourth quarter was not enough to overcome the consistency of the visitors.

How It Happened
1Q | A quarter that ended in an even score, saw the Lions take charge from the beginning over the Mocs. Saint Leo's three-point shooting was on in the first, as four of the first six made baskets were from deep. The Lions saw Chachi Guzman and Mary Redmond each score six points in the period. The visitors scored most of their baskets on lay-ups in the paint, as six different players scored in the period for the Mocs. | 16-16 |
2Q | Saint Leo took as much as a four point lead on back-to-back jumpers from Izabell Skoogh, but the resilient Mocs kept the Lions within reach the whole period. A nine-point streak from the Mocs gave them a five-point lead, before Abby Peterson sunk a shot to end the run. The Mocs finished the half with a four-point lead. Seven Lions scored in the first half, and they recorded four steals, while forcing 11 first half turnovers. They also hit seven of their last nine field goals to end the period. 4Q | The Lions knew they would need to fight for their lives in the final period to try and fight back and that they did. The visitors opened with their largest lead of the game after a three-point basket to pull away by 20 points, but then Saint Leo started to chip away. The Lions went on a 12-4 run over a span of two minutes, helping give hope to the game. Of those 12 points, Skoogh tallied nine of them, including two threes. Saint Leo continued to fight, out-scoring the visitors, 35-27 in the period, but it was not enough as the undefeated Mocs remained that way. | FSC 82-73 |
Points to Note
- Saint Leo had four players in double-digits, led by Skoogh who finished with 18 points on 50-percent shooting from both the field and from behind the arch. Chelsy Springs followed with 15 points, while Redmond came off the bench for 13. Jone' Akins and Guzman also joined the double-digit crew with 11 and 10, respectively.
- Skoogh, a 5-foot-5 guard, led the Lions in rebounding with a career-high 8 rebounds.
- The Lions forced 17 turnovers, while snatching nine steals
- Saint Leo shot 48-percent from the field, with three players, Springs, Skoogh and Abby Peterson, all shooting 50-percent or better.
- Saint Leo out-rebounded the visitors, 30-28. The Mocs have been out-rebounding their opponents by 5.7 boards a game.
For the Mocs
