SAINT LEO, Fla. – Despite having the game's top-three scorers, the Saint Leo University women's basketball team fell 52-45 to visiting Eckerd College in its midweek contest in the Marion Bowman Activities Center.
The Lions drop to 6-10 on the season with a 1-6 mark against Sunshine State Conference opponents while the Tritons return home boasting a 14-3 overall record with a 5-2 tally in SSC contests.
A trio of Lions scored 11 points as forward Melissa Jackson led the charge, posting her seventh double-double of the season, combining 10 boards with her 11 total points. Guards Kinnara Lewis and Maggie Flynn each scored 11 for the Green and Gold. Senior Lewis added three assists and a pair of steals to her stat sheet while Flynn drained three baskets from beyond the arc.
Junior Chachi Guzman tallied eight points, six rebounds and four assists on the night to complement the Saint Leo offense.
Eckerd spread its attack across the lineup. Reigning SSC Player of the Week Rana Thomas totaled 10 to lead the Tritons, missing a double-double effort by a single rebound. Forward Trine Kasemagi scored nine points and added seven rebounds for her squad.
The Green and Gold out-shot Eckerd throughout the contest, as Saint Leo converted 35% of field goal attempts compared to 30% from the opposition. The contest came down to rebounding, as the Tritons dominated the paint with 51 team boards to 28 from the Lions.
