The Lions will face their toughest challenge of the young season thus far when they host No. 11 Rollins College in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday night on University Field. Saint Leo is coming off its first loss of the season in Sunday's 3-1 defeat at the hands of Lander University; Rollins also dropped its first match of 2014 on Sunday with a 1-0 loss to then-No. 8 Columbus State in Pensacola, Fla.
This will be a matchup of two of the higher-octane offenses in the Sunshine State Conference. Saint Leo is ranked 12 in the nation in scoring, averaging 3.60 goals, while Rollins is 13th with 3.50 goals per contest. The Lions have outscored their opponents by a 4-to-1 ratio this season, with 67 shots to their rivals' 31.
Individually, Saint Leo sophomore Arielle Kabangu leads the team with six goals and three assists for 15 points. She now has 28 goals and eight assists for 64 points for her career, placing her fifth among Saint Leo career goals leaders and sixth in career points.
Freshman Katie Waddell has already tallied five goals and three assists for 13 points through the Lions' first four games, while five other players have contributed one goal each.
Junior Abby Evans has started all four games this season for the Lions, with a 1.14 GAA and .714 save percentage over her 315 minutes played. Junior Laura Carstens made her first appearance of the season in the second half of the game against Lander, and recorded 45 shutout minutes with three saves.
Rollins is paced offensively by senior Brenna McKee with four goals, with sophomore Paxton Sickler adding three goals for the Tars' cause.
Overall, the Tars have charted 14 goals this season to their opponents' three, and Rollins has outshot their four opponents, 77-27.
Senior Mary Spring has played all 360 minutes in goal for the Tars, recording a 0.75 GAA and .800 save percentage.
