TAMPA, Fla. – At the conclusion of 110 minutes, the No. 11 Saint Leo University men's soccer team completed its contest against Clayton State University with a 0-0 draw. The Lions end the game 1-0-1 on the season while the Lakers sit 2-1-1 after the tie at Pepin Stadium on the campus of the University of Tampa.
The Green and Gold totaled 27 shots across the match compared to 16 from CSU.
The Lions led the offense in the first half, out-shooting the Lakers 10 to six. Midfielder Bafou Sanogo was unable to score, despite three shots on goal. Senior Alexander Racca ended the first half with two shots on goal, but Lakers goalkeeper Nick Punter stifled the attacks.
Excellent defense by both teams ended regulation at a 0-0 tie. Keeper Manuel Schoenhuber tallied four saves in the second half compared to six from CSU's Punter. Forward Maximilian Schulze-Geisthovel notched a pair of shots on goal in the second stanza but was unable to find the net.
After a pair of overtime periods, the game ended in a draw. Junior Schoenhuber finished with five saves on the game, ending in a 0-0 tie.
The Saint Leo men's soccer team returns to action on Friday, September 19, when they host the University of West Alabama. Game time against the Tigers is set for 7 p.m. Live stats will be made available through www.saintleolions.com.
