Fourth-Ranked Lions Trounce Tritons, 9-0

Saint Leo Advances to 15-3 with Win over Eckerd

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The fourth-ranked Saint Leo men's tennis team trounced Eckerd College on Saturday morning at the Turley Athletic Complex, defeating the Tritons with a clean 9-0 sweep.  The win advances the Lions to a record of 15-3, and 2-2 in Sunshine State Conference action, while Eckerd drops to a mark of 4-10, and 0-5 in conference play.

The Lions started the day with a sweep of doubles, with the top flight tandem of Bruno Sisti and Aloua Adjenak defeating Yosua Adiyasa and Frazier Springfield, 8-4.  At the No. 2 slot, the Saint Leo duo of Victor Lozier and Matt Nicholson-Lewis earned an 8-4 victory, while Ismail Lemtouni and Fons Verberne took down Luke Burton and Madison Durley, 8-6 at the No. 3 position.

Saint Leo took a clean sweep of singles action much like doubles, Eckerd put up a fight in certain areas, but the Green and Gold was able to come out on top in all six flights.

Sisti earned a hard-fought win in the top seed, defeating Adiyasa 6-3, 3-6, 10-7.  No. 40 Adjenak defeated Nikita Valuiskikh 6-2, 7-5 at the No. 2 slot, while Lemtouni took down Springfield by a final tally of 6-3, 6-4 in the No. 3 position.

Flight four was won by Oskar Nurmio, who defeated Felma 6-2, 6-2, while Jacobo Gonzalez-Tarrio defeated Luke Burton 6-2, 6-3 at No. 5 singles.  Verberne took the sixth seed 6-1, 6-1, defeating Lewis as the Lions earned their second sweep of the season.

The Saint Leo men's tennis team returns to action on Friday, April 11, when they host Rollins College on Senior Day at the Saint Leo Tennis Center.  Match time against the Tars is slated for 3 p.m.
