Twelve Lions Score as Saint Leo Makes Easy work of Young Harris, 18-5

Lions Earn South Region Win, Advance to 5-1 on the Season

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Twelve different Lions scored en route to an 18-5 victory over Young Harris in south region action on Tuesday evening at University Turf Stadium.  The win advances the Lions' record to 5-1 on the season and extends their win streak to four, while the Mountain Lions drop to 1-7 on the season.

Caroline Fraser and Allie Sheftall led the team as each tallied a hat trick on the night, while Joanna Chadwick and Emily Pittenger each netted two.  Alix Murray, Christina Minneci, Andrea Kuhl, Kelsey Burns, Danica Leili, Jennifer Doyle, Bethanny Jolly, and Brynn Laverdure each tallied one goal as the Lions routed their opponent.  Minneci and Murray led the game with four points thanks to three assists apiece in addition to their goals, while Burns, Kuhl, and Sarah Johnson each assist once.

The Mountain Lions were headed up by Jaclyn Kernohan, who tallied a hat trick on the night.  Kaylynn Roach scored twice, while Ivey Franklin earned an assist.

In goal for Saint Leo, freshman Kaylyn Kearns faced six shots, allowing just two goals while making four saves in 30 minutes of play.  Nicole Sirota-Plotnikov closed out the contest, seeing four shots and making one save in the second half.

Sarah Nudelman faced a total of 24 shots from the Lions in 39 minutes of play, allowing 15 goals while making nine saves.  Carter Moore closed out the game in cage for the Mountain Lions, facing seven shots where she made four saves and allowed three goals.

Saint Leo rolled out to a comfortable nine goal lead over the course of 18 minutes before Kernohan put Young Harris on the board with 8:11 to go in the first half.  The Lions netted the next thanks to an unassisted goal by Murray with 7:17 left in the period, but another goal by Kernohan halted the Lions' momentum ten seconds later to set the score at 10-2.  Saint Leo closed out the half with three more goals to enter into the half with a 13-2 lead.

Saint Leo continued through the second half with ease, outscoring Young Harris 5-3 to conclude the regional contest with a final score of 18-5.

The Saint Leo women's lacrosse team returns to action on Thursday, March 13, when they host No. 1 LIU Post at University Turf Stadium.  Game time against the Pioneers is set for 4 p.m.
