PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 9 West Florida women's tennis defeated No. 7 Saint Leo, 6-3, Friday at the Ralph Carson Tennis Complex in Florida's panhandle. It was the first loss the Lions suffered in over a month.
Ranked No. 2 in the South Region, Saint Leo fell to UWF, ranked No. 4 in the region, to drop to 14-3 on the season. Its only other losses are to the top two teams in the country, No. 1 Armstrong and No. 2 Barry.
After taking a 2-1 advantage in doubles, the host Argonauts went on to outscore the Lions 4-2 in singles. No. 27 Monika Kochanova picked up a win over No. 37 Coralie Pesenti at No. 1. South Region No. 15 Luiza Sonnervig defeated South Region No. 19 Pauline Helgesson at No. 2.
The Lions will look to rebound when they face South Region for Valdosta State in Pensacola. The match is scheduled to start at 11:00 a.m.
