AT A GLANCE: Saint Leo starting pitcher Michael Dunnigan (6-0) tossed a complete-game shutout to lead the Lions to a 4-0 win over Rollins College. The Saint Leo (29-12, 9-7 SSC) offense was able to get just enough going to get Dunnigan some run support en route to the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Saint Leo threatened in the second, getting its first two runners on base after a base hit from Ryan Brnovich and a walk by Frank Rawdow. Then with a 1-1 count to Daniel Torres, the runners took off and Torres lined one back right at the pitcher, Figliolia, who caught the ball, spun and threw to second to start off the 1-6-3 triple play.
  • The Lions took a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning when Brnovich singled to start the inning and eventually came home on passed ball from the Tars' catcher Yuta Okazaki.
  • The Lions pushed another run across the board in the top of the sixth to make it a 2-0 game. The inning was started with back to back singles from Chris Newcomb and Dillon Vitale. With men on second and third, Twitty hit a bounding ball to short that scored Newcomb from the third.
  • Two huge insurance runs were scored in the top of the eighth after Vitale led off the inning being hit by a pitch. Vitale would score on an RBI double from Twitty, and Twitty would come home the next play on an RBI single from Taed Moses.
 KEY CONTRIBUTORS
  • Dunnigan tossed nine innings of scoreless baseball, earning his sixth win of the season. The freshman right-hander allowed just four hits while striking out two Tars batters.
  • Moses led the Lions' offensive effort—going 3-for-3 at the plate with an RBI.
  • Brnovich went 2-for-4 at the plate.
  • Bringing home two runs on the afternoon was Twitty, going 1-for-3.
  • Finishing the day 2-for-5 was the centerfielder Newcomb.
