BOCA RATON, Fla. – The 15th-ranked Saint Leo men's tennis teams run to a Sunshine State Conference Championship came to a premature end as the No. 3 seed Lions fell to No. 2 Lynn University 5-1 in the semifinal round of the SSC Championships at South County Regional Park on Friday afternoon.
Despite the 5-1 final score in favor of the Fighting Knights (16-5), the match was much closer than the final score indicated. Falling behind 3-0, doubles saw all three flights decided by no more than a four-point margin.
It was much the same story entering singles play. Jacobo Gonzalez-Tarrio picked up the Lions' (15-5) only recorded victory at No. 6 singles, but all six flights were tightly contested as Nos. 1, 2 and 4 were still up for grabs with Saint Leo taking at least one set in each match.
With their tournament run reaching an end, the Lions now await information about a possible repeat bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Lions will find out their playoff future in the days to come.
