Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader against Columbus State

SAINT LEO, Fla. –The Saint Leo baseball team (4-2) swept Saturday's doubleheader against Columbus State (2-4) on Saturday afternoon from Thomas B. Southard Stadium. The Lions took game one by a score of 5-4 after a walk-off single by Dillon Vitale. Game two, which took just an hour and eight minutes, featured a Charles Neely complete game to give the Lions a 3-1 win.

In game one the Lions took a 2-0 nothing lead early and rode that lead all the way into the seventh inning behind Rick Teasley's solid pitching performance. Teasley tossed seven and a third innings while not allowing an earned run and striking out five.

Saint Leo scored two more runs in the sixth inning to take a 4-1 lead but the Cougars rallied in the eighth and ninth innings to tie the game at four. It was then that the Lions ninth inning magic began when Michael Revell doubled in the gap to set up Vitale's single into right field that brought home the winning run.

Taylor Perez led the Lions offense in the opening game of the double-header with two hits. Adam Albers collected the win after coming in to get the third out in the top of the ninth inning.

In the second game of the double-header the Lions took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first and were in control for the remainder of the game. Columbus State scored its only run in the top of the fourth but the Lions quickly countered in the bottom half of the inning to regain a two-run lead.

Neely earned his second win in as many starts while striking out eight and surrendering just thee hits in the complete game performance.

Seven different Lions' batters tallied hits in game two with RBIs coming from Revell, Ryan Brnovich, and Chris Newcomb
