Marran Earns 100th Career Goal in 21-7 Loss to No. 3 Adelphi

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo women's lacrosse team saw third-ranked Adelphi run out to a quick four-goal lead and couldn't recover as they dropped to the North Region powerhouse by a score of 21-7 on Sunday afternoon from University Turf Stadium.  Saint Leo drops to a mark of 0-2 on the season, while Adelphi opens their 2013 campaign with a mark of 1-0.

Junior Stephanie Marran scored her  100th career goal, and added one more to lead the team in goals with two on the day.  Alyssa Viscomi, Paige Leggio, Alix Murray, Allie Sheftall, and Christina Minneci added one goal apiece, with Minneci earning the lone Lion assist on the afternoon.

Leading the game with five goals was Adelphi senior Sarah Sangiorgio with five, while Devan Crimi led the game in overall points with seven as she tallied three goals and four assists.  In total, seven Panthers contributed to the afternoon's scoring efforts.

In goal, sophomore Brittany Millsap set aside 10 shots, while Nicole Sirota-Plotnikov earned two saves in 10 minutes of action.  Adelphi rattled off 39 shots and 33 shots on target, while Saint Leo was able to fire off 24 shots and 18 shots on cage.

Taylor Langston earned the start in goal for Adelphi, making five saves in 32 minutes of action.  Jordann Dempsey and Taylor Hayes saw time between the pipes for the Panthers, as well, making three saves each.

Adelphi got things going early, scoring in the first 14 seconds of play and igniting a four goal streak that fell in the opening three minutes.  Leggio halted the Panther run and put the Lions on the scoreboard on a free position shot with 21:42 to go before the half, but Adelphi answered back 42 seconds later to set the score at 5-1.

Marran placed a shot past Langston with 19:41 on the clock, earning her milestone 100th career goal, and pulling Saint Leo to within three with a score of 5-2.  Adelphi went on to outscore the Lions 5-2 throughout the remainder of the first half, setting the score at 10-4 at the break.

The Panthers continued their efforts throughout the second stanza, outscoring the Lions 11-3 in the final 30 minutes of play.
