Saint Leo Sweeps Day 2 of Sunshine Crossover Tournament

CAROLLTON, Ga. – After a Friday night loss to kick off the Sunshine Crossover tournament, the Saint Leo volleyball team bounced back on Saturday to sweep the second and final day of tournament action. After taking home wins over West Alabama and Alabama-Huntsville, the Lions improved their record to 16-6 on the season.

In the first match of the day against the University of West Alabama, the Lions pounded home a 3-0 win (25-18, 25-14, 25-19) to jumpstart a momentum that would last for the remainder of the day.

Much like Friday night's contest, senior Jaclyn Mailoto and juniors Lauren Campbell and Yaidimar Santiago led the effort for the Lions in the first match of the day.

Offensively, Mailoto collected 39 assists in match one, giving Campbell the opportunity to smash 18 kills, while junior Tawni Warren notched 11 and both Alexa Griffith-Hardy and Meghan Donovan tallied six each.

Defensively, Santiago led the Lions in digs, amassing 19 in the three-set victory.

The Saint Leo squad hit for .346 in the win over West Alabama, holding the Tigers to just a .095 attack percentage.

The second match of the day featured an exciting win over the University of Alabama at Huntsville as the Lions finished the Chargers in just three sets (25-13, 28-18, 25-22).

Junior Alexa-Griffith-Hardy led the offensive attack for the Lions in the second match of the day, pounding home 10 kills with .588 attack percentage. Lauren Campbell followed her lead with 9 kills, bringing her total to 28 kills on the day.

As per usual, setter Jaclyn Mailoto led the Lions in assists, totaling 34 in the second match to bring her season total to 841.

Defensively, Yaidimar Santiago led the Lions with 10 digs against the Chargers, while Campbell and junior Molly Alexander each tallied seven.

On the day, the Saint Leo squad notched 92 kills and 93 digs.

The Lions will return to action on Friday, October 25 when they travel to Boca Raton, Fla. to take on the Lynn University Fighting Knights. The match is slated for 7:00 p.m.
