Marran Earns 100th Career Point as Lions Thump Newberry, 17-1

Box Score

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo women's lacrosse sophomore Stephanie Marran netted her 100th career point, assisting on the Lions' second goal of the evening in a 17-1 final rout over Newberry College on Friday evening.  The win advances Saint Leo to an overall record of 5-8 in their first season, while fellow first-year program Newberry drops to 2-8 on the season.

Marran matched a program best for points in a game that she set earlier in the season, tallying five goals and two assists on her momentous evening.  Joanna Chadwick matched Marran in goals scored with five, while Alix Murray matched Chadwick in points with two goals and a team high three assists.

Christina Minneci and Alyssa Viscomi tallied three points apiece, scoring two goals and an assist, and one goal and two assists, respectively.  Ashlea Mann was credited with a goal and an assist, and Callie Porcher rounded out the goal count with one of her own in the Lions' big victory.

Brittany Millsap and Nicole Sirota-Plotnikov split time between the pipes, earning four saves apiece.  Their counterpart for the Wolves, Sam Capers, set aside 18 shots while facing a total of 41 shots and 31 shots on frame from the Lions.

Newberry's lone goal on the night was from Victoria Thomas, who squeezed a ball past Millsap in the first half on a free position shot with 9:57 to go before the half.

Saint Leo rolled out to a 6-0 advantage before Thomas could put the Wolves on the scoreboard.  The Green and Gold closed out the first half with an 8-1 lead, and held Newberry silent in the final 30 minutes of play as they tacked on nine more goals.

It was a total team effort once again, with solid play in all areas of the field for Saint Leo.  Kasey Tanner and Kelsey Cunningham earned two ground balls each, while Andrea Kuhl collected three ground balls and two draw controls on the night.  Linsey Hoskins and Haley Skipper each picked up a ground ball while providing solid play in the midfield and on defense for the Saint Leo.

The Lions dominated the game, leading the shot count 41-12, and winning the ground ball battle 36-20.  Saint Leo also won 12-of-20 draw controls, and were successful on 17-of-21 clear attempts while holding Newberry to just seven successful clears on 19 attempts.  The Lions caused seven turnovers on the night, including four from Chadwick.

Saint Leo returns to action on Wednesday, April 18, when they square off against Florida Southern in their final game of the season.  Game time against the Mocs is set for 7 p.m. at University Field.  Fans can get the latest news, updates, and information on the women's lacrosse team by visiting the Lions' home on the web at saintleolions.com.
