Softball Falls in Series Opener to No.14 Rollins

WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Saint Leo softball team (17-29, 2-14 SSC) dropped its Sunshine State Conference series opener to the No.14-ranked Rollins College Tars (32-7, 13-3 SSC), 9-0, Friday evening from Rollins Softball Stadium at Lake Island Park.

A first inning, three-run home off the bat of Monica Meadows, in addition to a six-run second, aided the home-standing Tars to the team's series-opening victory.

It was nationally-ranked Rollins who took to the scoreboard first as Meadows utilized a three-run home run off Lions' starter Megan Still to claim a 3-0 lead. Rollins added to their advantage with six more runs in the second inning, including the second home run in as many at-bats for Meadows.

The 9-0 lead held for the Tars in the five-inning win, with the Lions best scoring chance coming in the fifth when Rachelle Gremo was stranded at third base after a leadoff walk.

Still (7-18) was tagged with the loss, while the Tars' Hope Bitzer (17-3) recorded her third no-hitter of the season.

The Lions will return to the field on Saturday, April 14, when they conclude their three-game SSC series with the Rollins College Tars.  First pitch for the doubleheader is set for 1 p.m. from the Rollins Softball Stadium at Lake Island Park.
