Women's Tennis Overpowers Rival Spartans, 9-0

TAMPA, Fla. – The Saint Leo women's tennis team ran its record to 2-0 with a convincing 9-0 win over the University of Tampa Spartans, Wednesday evening from the UT Tennis Complex.

The Lions began the non-conference slate by edging the Spartans in a trio of doubles matches, before closing the contest with six-straight singles wins.

Saint Leo opened the contests with a pair of 8-3 wins, before wrapping-up action with an 8-6 victory at the No.3 slot. The South Regions No.3-ranked doubles tandem of Laura Kemkes and Emily Singleton highlighted the session as they downed the Spartans' top tandem of Meg Wladimirski and Megan Mancini.

The singles portion of the regional match-up saw the Lions wrap-up the match with six consecutive wins. Kemkes, at top flight singles, won, 6-1, 6-2, while Adrianna Daszkiewicz and Jeanette McDonald took home straight-set wins of 6-2, 6-0, and 6-1, 6-2, respectively.

On the match, the Head Coach James Bryce said, "It was a solid all-around afternoon. We need to take this win and build off of it as we head into conference play."

The Lions will return to the court on Saturday, February 11, when they open Sunshine State Conference action against Barry at the Saint Leo Tennis Center. First serve is set 9 a.m.
