Lions Hit-Machine Keeps Rolling in 15-4 Win over Lindenwood

VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Saint Leo baseball team kept the hot start to their season going as the Lions pounded out 21 hits en route to a 15-4 win over Lindenwood (Mo.) at the Comfort Suites Classic on Saturday afternoon.

"I am proud of our approach these first two days of the tournament," Head Coach Russ McNickle said.  "We have been able to play a lot of guys each day (but) we will be tested tomorrow by a very good Valdosta State team.  I am counting on the same approach we have had in the tournament so we can finish this weekend better than we started.

It was a game where Saint Leo (2-0) scored runs in the first six innings and finished the game spinning the scoreboard in seven of nine frames.  After each team posted single runs in the first, the Lions plated three in the second inning behind a Daniel Torres two-run homer.

The Lions increased their advantage over Lindenwood (0-2) by scoring four runs in the fourth inning, two coming from a double off the bat of Anthony Santa, and two off a blast from Zach Miller.

Making the first start of his Saint Leo career, Charles Neely (1-0) surrendered just three hits in five innings and did not give up an earned run.

Seven of nine Lions notched at least two hits apiece as Torres went 2-for-3 with four RBI. Santa went 3-for-5 with three RBI and Miller went 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored.

The Lions will look to make it a clean sweep of the weekend, but will have their toughest test of the tournament tomorrow when they face the host Valdosta State University Blazers at 2 p.m.  For the latest news, information, and updates on the baseball team, visit SaintLeoLions.com.
