TAMPA, Fla. – It was a convincing win at the perfect time as the No.27-ranked Saint Leo women’s team (13-8, 1-6 SSC) collected its first Sunshine State Conference win while also snapping a season high four-match losing streak, downing No.50 Tampa (4-12, 0-7 SSC), 8-1, from the UT Tennis Complex.

For the first time since March 19, the Lions swept through the doubles side before collecting five victories in singles competition.

Jeanette McDonald and recently named Saint Leo Athlete of the Week, Adrianna Daszkiewicz, blanked the duo of Kathleen Beckham and Briana Ryan, 8-0, to give SLU its first point.

Shortly after, Bethania Laan and Laura Kemkes bounced Leslie Raymond and Lauren Hewett by the score of 8-4.

Selma Hidass and Caroline Ebner punctuated the sweep with an overwhelming 8-5 win over Megan Mancini and Nikol Williams at No.2.

On the singles side, Kemkes quickly made the score 4-0 with a dominating 6-0, 6-1 win over Beckham.

After a Tampa win at No.5, Hidass controlled her match at No.3 singles as she paced Hewett 6-3, 6-3, solidifying the match for the Green & Gold.

Daszkiewicz followed by downing Mancini in consecutive set 6-3, 6-0 while McDonald captained the No.1 spot in a 7-5, 6-1 defeat of Raymond at No.1.

 Samantha White topped off the win by participating in a grueling super tiebreak win, eventually taking the match 7-5, 4-6, 10-6.

On today’s win, Coach James Bryce was excited with the SSC outcome, “Today was all about confidence and finding our rhythm early. Tampa has improved since we played them two months ago, but we did a good job on the majority of the important points. We look to continue this momentum into Friday and the SSC Tournament.

The Lions will close out the regular season with a senior day with against Eckerd on Friday, April 18. Opening serve for the SSC contest is set for 3:00 p.m.
