Tennis Teams Continue to Boast National Rankings; Region Standings Released

SKILLMAN, N.J. – The Saint Leo men’s and women’s tennis teams continued to gain national recognition recently, as each earned spots inside the top-30 of the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) national poll.

The men, who have amassed a 12-7 record, catapulted up the charts 18 spots to land at No.26. Meanwhile, the women, sporting a 12-8 record, fell back three spots to No.27.

Regionally, the men and women are ranked eighth and ninth in the latest NCAA regional poll. In addition, Matt Nicholson-Lewis and Victor Lozier are ranked No.19 and 23 in singles, respectively. The duo also comes in as the No.10-ranked doubles team in the south, and No.23 in the country.

As for the women, the hot start sees the doubles team of Bethania Laan and Laura Kemkes also ranked No.10 in the latest region standings.

The women have been faced with their stiffest challenge of the season in recent days as they are on a four-match losing streak. Each of their four losses has come to opponents ranked in the top-15 in the country and all within the last 10 days.

The men are also facing a challenge of a late having lost three-straight regional matches to top-25 teams.

Both the men and women have two matches left in the regular season before competing in the Sunshine State Conference Tournament.
