Lions Fall to Mocs in Rain-Shortened SSC Showdown, 6-2

LAKELAND, Fla. – The No.27-ranked Saint Leo women’s tennis team (12-8, 0-6 SSC) fell to No.11 Florida Southern (11-3, 4-3 SSC), 6-2, in an Sunshine State Conference contest Wednesday afternoon from the FSC Courts in Lakeland.

In the rain-shortened contest, the Lions were only able to secure one match on the doubles side, before tallying their only other point in singles.

Collecting the first point for the Lions in doubles was the No.3 tandem of Jeanette McDonald and Adrianna Daszkiewicz as they dumped Crystal Copeland and Pamela Paradis, 8-2.

The Lions also received a solid effort from their top pair, Bethania Laan and Laura Kemkes, but were eventually edged, by the 16th-ranked pair of Agnese Rozite and Sabine Goge, 8-6.

Over on the singles side, Daszkiewicz proved her dominance over Copeland again as she took out the Moc in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2, from the No.5 position.

Laan also performed well at the top of the Lions’ lineup but eventually fell victim to No.31 Rozite 6-4, 6-2.

On the effort today, Head Coach James Bryce declared, "We played decent in patches today, but couldn't quite put it all together. We have three matches left and look to close the regular season on a high note."

With no break in-between matches, the Lions will come home to defend their home court against Northwood University (Mich.) on Thursday, March 31. Opening serve is set for 3:00 p.m.
