Tars Register Key Conference Win Over No.24 Saint Leo, 8-1

WINTER PARK, Fla. – Continuing its string of tough of opponents, the Saint Leo women’s tennis team (12-5, 0-5 SSC) fell for the third consecutive time as they fell to the sixth-ranked Rollins College Tars (13-4, 4-1 SSC), 8-1, Wednesday afternoon from Bert Martin Tennis Complex.

Facing a 3-0 hole out of doubles, the Tars continued momentum into singles where they took five-of-six.

In doubles, both the Lions No.1 and No.2 pairs of Bethania Laan/Laura Kemkes and Jeanette McDonald/Adrianna Daszkiewicz lost by identical 8-3 scores, while Caroline Ebner and Samantha White dropped an 8-1 decision.

Kemkes collected the Lions only point of the game on the singles side as she downed Lisa Loft at No.3 singles in straight-sets. Kemkes controlled the first set, 6-3, and proved to resilient in the second set as she edged Loft in the super tiebreak, 7-6 (10-4).

In a battle at the top spot, Laan’s efforts fell just short as she was edged by the No.26-ranked Roshni Luthra 6-3, 7-5.

The Lions will look to snap their losing streak when they travel to Lakeland, Fla. on Wednesday, March 30 to take on rival and national powerhouse Florida Southern in SSC action. First serve is set for 3:30 p.m.
