SAINT LEO, Fla. – For the second time in three days, the Saint Leo men’s tennis team (12-6, 1-2 SSC) was matched up with a top-five opponent, this time fourth-ranked Lynn University (11-3, 4-1 SSC). Unfortunately, the Lions found themselves on the short end of the stick once again as they dropped an 8-1 decision to the Fighting Knight in Sunshine State Conference action from the Saint Leo Tennis Center.
A consistent contender for conference and national glory, Lynn gathered a sweep of the Lions in doubles play while prevailing in five-of-six matches on the singles side.
The Lions No.2 tandem of Pablo Chavez and Tom Gleeson gave the Lions their best shot at a point in doubles, but fell just short, 8-4.
Meanwhile, the No.23-ranked pair of Matt Nicholson-Lewis and Victor Lozier dropped an 8-3 score, while Aloua Adjenak and Jose Morales fell by the identical numbers at the No.3 spot.
On the singles side, Gleeson shined bright for the Green & Gold as he took down Benji Kendall in a three set super tiebreak, 3-6, 7-6, 10-8.
Adjenak and Chavez also pushed their opponents to the edge but came up just short in the end. Adjenak lost a 6-5, 6-4 decision at No.3, and Chavez fell 6-5, 6-3.
The men will take to the court again on Wednesday, March 30 when they travel to Lakeland, Fla. to take on the Florida Southern College Moccasins. First serve for the conference slate is set for 3:00 p.m.
