SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo softball team (19-18, 3-4 SSC) saw their season-high four game winning streak come to an end as they dropped a 10-0 decision to SSC foe Barry University (19-6, 7-0 SSC), Saturday night from University Stadium.
In the loss, Saint Leo could only muster four hits, while the Buccaneers pounded-out 15. Offensively, four separate Lions recorded base hits, including Ashlee Sismilich, Diane Gonzalez, Ana Castillo and Alex Garris. In addition to her hit, Sismilich also drew a pair of walks.
Highlighting the game for Barry was an eight-run second inning which featured nine hits and the Buccaneers batting around the order.
Saint Leo couldn’t overcome the steep hole, as their best scoring chance came in the seventh inning when two runners were stranded in scoring position.
Leading the Barry charge was the combined 6-for-7 efforts from Jessica Tabor and Brianna Smith as they knocked in four of the nine runs and scored three others.
Megan Still took the loss for the Green & Gold as she dropped to 9-6 on the season.
The Lions will continue their three-game series with the Bucs on Sunday, March 20. The afternoon doubleheader is scheduled to get underway at 1:00 p.m. from University Stadium.
