SAINT LEO, Fla. – The No.24-ranked Saint Leo women’s tennis team (11-4) proved to be better than its opponent for the fourth consecutive match as the downed the Bentley University Falcons (5-6), 8-1, Thursday evening from the Saint Leo Tennis Center.
Having won eight of their last nine matches, Saint Leo swept doubles action over the Falcons before taking all but one on the singles side.
Bethania Laan and Laura Kemkes posted the Lions first of two doubles shutouts as they toppled Paulina Sotomayor and Rachel Litton.
Meanwhile, Jeanette McDonald and Adrianna Daszkiewicz overwhelmed Cheryl Martin and Brittany Harbert, 8-0.
The No.2 pair of Selma Hidass and Caroline Ebner wrapped up doubles action with a hard-fought 8-6 win over Kara Murphy and Aimee Tetu.
Commanding a 3-0 lead, Laan, Kemkes, Daszkiewicz, and McDonald dominated play over the next four singles matches.
Laan aced Sotomayor 6-0, 6-0 at No.1, while Kemkes posted identical scores against Martin at No. 3 singles.
After Daszkiewicz turned back Harbert 6-1, 6-0, McDonald bounced Litton in straight sets 6-0, 6-0.
Ebner solidified the team’s final point as she downed Katie Van Gilst in consecutive sets 6-1, 6-3.
Individually, Kemkes has now won 10 consecutive singles matches.
Saint Leo resumes region action on Saturday, March 19 when they travel to West Palm Beach, Fla. to take on the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish. Doubles will begin the match at approximately 1:00 p.m.
