Women's Basketball Preps for Puerto Rico-Mayaguez

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Sporting a 3-0 record to start the season, the Saint Leo women's basketball team looks to go an unblemished 4-0 against regional opponent the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m. at the Marion Bowman Activities Center.

Defeating a trio of regional opponents to start the 2011-12 season, the Lions have seen steady play on the offensive and defensive ends.

In total, the team is averaging just a few ticks under 60 points-per-game, including a season-low 37 last Wednesday to Bayamon, but has held opponents to an average of 45 points-per-game. In the most dramatic statistic over the first three contests, Saint Leo has held opponents to just 26 free throw attempts all season, while collecting nearly 70 attempts themselves.

Individually, the Lions have a pair of double-digit scorers in Chelsea Williams and Chelsea Connelly. Williams is pacing the Lions at 13.0 ppg., while Connelly has come off the bench to score 10.3 ppg.

Four Lions are averaging over five rebounds-per-game as Williams' captains the quartet at 6.7 rpg.

In the Lions one match-up with Mayaguez in 2010-11, Saint Leo downed UPR, 70-47, in Puerto Rico last December.
