SAINT LEO, Fla. – Riding the momentum of a hard-earned 63-56 win over Gulf South Conference opponent West Florida last Friday, the Lions welcome another GSC competitor, Valdosta State University, into the Marion Bowman Activities Center for another prime regional showdown.
Tip-off between the Lions and Blazers is set for 2 p.m. on the campus of Saint Leo University.
Saint Leo enters the contest 1-0 on the season, while Valdosta State, having defeated Nova Southeastern and Barry, comes into the game with a 2-1 mark. The Blazers experienced their first loss of the 2011-12 season last Tuesday against Georgia Southwestern.
In their opening contest, the Lions did not let 24 turnovers slow down a scorching offense which converted 24-of-51 shots. Forward Chelsea Williams asserted herself in the post with a team-high 15 points. Meanwhile, Shalisa Hill registered a team-best 12 boards and sophomore Chelsea Connolly came off the bench to score 14 points.
Brittany Ferguson anchors the Blazers' scoring offense with 17.3 points-per-game, and leads the squad in rebounds at eight-per-game.
In total, three Blazers average in double figures, while the team is averaging nearly 61 points-per-game.
The Lions downed the Blazers in their previous match-up, 63-57, last December from Valdosta, Ga.
