Volleyball Eyes Rebound with Saturday Match against Barry

SAINT LEO, Fla. – After last night's frustrating five-set loss, the Saint Leo volleyball team will return to the Marion Bowman Activities Center and welcome Barry University in a pivotal Sunshine State Conference match on Saturday afternoon.

It has been a rough couple of weeks for the Lions, who have uncharacteristically not tasted victory since September 16.  Last night, the Lions showed their resiliency in a five-set thriller against Lynn, but key runs by the Fighting Knights, including a 6-0 swing in the deciding set, eventually cost the Lions the victory.  Four Lions were in double figures as the team hit .204 overall.  Jordan Sisson slammed down 15 kills and only had one error to hit .519, while Danielle Blesto hit .379 with 16 kills for the Green and Gold.  Emily Calderon-Reyes added 14 kills and 13 digs as she saved points for the Lions on multiple occasions.

It hasn't been much easier for Barry as they come into today's match having dropped four of their last five matches.  With a new head coach this season in Steve Hendricks, the Buccaneers' 6-0 start seems a distant memory as Barry dropped a 3-0 decision to Eckerd in St. Petersburg last night.  In the match Tania Torres led the way on offense for the Buccaneers with 13 kills. Mariana Lisboa chipped in with 10 while Mima Hajdukovic and Lanie Muys split 15. Jenna Duddleston had 18 digs on defense while the team accounted for 55.

Last season, the Buccaneers swept both matches with the Lions' last win coming on October 30, 2009 in Miami Shores.
