SAINT LEO, Fla. – The No.8-ranked Saint Leo men’s soccer team will open its 2010 Sunshine State Conference schedule in what is expected to be a very challenging contest with cross-state rivals Rollins College tonight at 7:00 p.m. from Cahall-Sandspur Field in Winter Park, Fla.
The Tars enter the contest with a 2-1-1 overall record; solidifying wins over Florida Memorial and the Lions next opponent, West Florida. On the season,the Tars have registered 10 goals, including three by Nick Sowers, the team’s leading goal scorer.
The Tars lone loss on the year came at the hands of an upstart Incarnate Word squad, as they fell by the score of 4-1.
The Lions come into tonight’s game posting a 4-0 record and ranked eighth in the latest NSCAA Top-25 poll. Saint Leo has been an offensive juggernaut during the first four games of the year averaging five goals a game. The team is also ranked No. 1 in the country in scoring offense.
Individually, the Lions are led by Edgar Herrera and Aaron Gendreau who have combined to score 11 goals. Herrera currently ranks first in the nation in total points and total goals, while Gendreau is ranked fifth in the country in the same categories. Bruce Cutler and Jonathan Glenn have also registered three goals apiece.
The Lions two big wins on the season have come over in-region opponents Carson-Newman and Georgia Southwestern.
