Men’s Tennis Falls Short Against Southern Indiana

SAINT LEO, Fla. - The Saint Leo men's tennis team fell to the University of Southern Indiana 8-1 on Monday afternoon at the SLU Tennis Complex.

In the non-conference event, the Lions dropped all three of their doubles matches as it was a struggle for the men in doubles play.  Aside from a tough battle, the Lions No. 1 team of Jose Morales and Yves Jacobs fell 8-2 while the No. 2 and No. 3 teams of Pablo Chavez and Richard Maclachlan as well as Michael Callaway and Tim Balz-Herrmann lost by identical 8-3 scores.

The Lions’ lone win came from No. 4 singles as Maclachlan won in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.  In No. 1 singles, Chavez won the first set and dropped the second, sending the match into a tie-breaker.  The tie-break was a see-saw battle, but at the end Chavez couldn't prevail and dropped the tie-breaker 10-8.  The other tie-breaker came from the No. 2 spot when Morales, who fell in the first set and battled back to dominate the second 6-0, to send the match to a tie-breaker to fall 10-5.

Saint Leo returns to the court on Wednesday, March 10th for a non-conference showdown with Bentley.  First serve is set for 3:00 p.m. at the SLU Tennis Complex.
