SAINT LEO, Fla. – Playing in his final match at the SLU Tennis Center, senior Richard Maclachlan went undefeated in his two matches as a bright spot for the Saint Leo men’s tennis team in their 7-2 loss to 13th-ranked Florida Southern College in Sunshine State Conference action on Wednesday afternoon.
Maclachlan, playing in the No. 2 doubles and No. 6 singles spots, teamed up with Pablo Chavez to take down the Moccasin tandem of Christian Lange and C.J. Johnson with an 8-5 final score. The win would send the teams into the singles portion of the SSC match with FSC leading 2-1.
With the nation’s 13th-ranked team, the Lions (3-16, 0-4 SSC) quickly fell behind on the singles’ side, but Maclachlan again proved to make his final match on the courts he helped open memorable. Playing in the No. 6 spot for the first time this season, he again deposited C.J. Johnson in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3.
The visiting Moccasins (10-4, 2-2 SSC) swept the remaining singles matches to claim their second conference win of 2010.
After wrapping up the home portion of their schedule, the Lions will now travel to Rollins College to face the Tars in SSC competition on Tuesday afternoon. The match is scheduled to get underway at 3:00 p.m.
