SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo men’s tennis team fell to non-conference opponent Embry Riddle on a frigid-cold Wednesday night at the SLU Tennis Center. In their second home contest of 2010 the Lions dropped the match 9-0.
On the singles side the Lions dropped all six matches in straight sets. Despite the losses junior Pablo Chavez battled in the number one singles spot, but fell in the first set 6-4 and was unable to bounce back in the second set, losing 6-1.
Sophomore Jose Morales played a tough match at no. 2 singles; he fell in the first set 6-1, and sent the second set into tiebreaker losing 7-6.
In doubles action, the Lions could not hold their serve and close out points as they dropped all three matches to the Eagles. Morales and sophomore Yves Jacobs and held their own, but were unable to score points as they dropped their match, 8-5.
Head Coach James Bryce stated, “We played the best doubles matches so far, we just need to learn how to finish off points and close matches.”
The Lions look to recover from their 0-3 start, as they take the road to Melbourne, Fla. to face off against the Panthers of Florida Tech on Saturday February 13th. First serve is set for 1:00 p.m. at Free Avenue Courts.
