DAY THREE: Certified Athletic Trainer Leigh Baker and Guard Elise Clyburn
LB: For the second day in a row, we were greeted with refreshing morning rains. But before breakfast some of us support staffers decided to make an early morning run to Starbucks (a little taste of home, and a much needed wake-up call). “Oh it’s just up the road; I saw one just past the Walgreens yesterday”. Those were the statements I heard before we departed on what would be my first Puerto Rico driving experience. After an hour and a half driving excursion, the fact sunk home that Google maps time and Puerto Rico time are two totally different things.
LB: Needless to say, the majority of the support staff missed the team-cooked breakfast.
EC: The day started off with a great breakfast made by the two’s, Britt, Alyssa, KB, and Coach Olds. I must admit, they cooked a better breakfast than I did the morning before.
EC: We made it to the gym this time with no detours, or rather missed turns and faulty GPS work (and more of that precision driving). The driving here is beyond scary. Let’s just say the road rules are more of just guidelines and breaking those guidelines doesn’t exactly mean a person getting in trouble. For example, three cars ran a red light with a cop behind them then the cop didn’t do anything…Hmmmm.
EC: The outdoor gym was a little better today, as Bayamon provided four on court fans which was assisted by a nice cool breeze from the rain that was on its way. That does not mean that it still didn’t feel like over 80 degrees in the gym.
EC: After the win we were stuck in traffic and rain which felt like forever and a day. Coming back to the house coach olds told us that we were finally going to eat some authentic Puerto Rican foods, which was down the road. The food was beyond amazing!
LB: After returning from Bayamon we had dinner on our minds; the culinary choice for the evening, a taste of the Rico. Roasted chicken, ribs, chickpeas, red beans, plantains, yucca, yellow rice, and white rice, capped off with a deliciouso chocolate mousse. After mine, and the rest of the groups stomach’s had been filled to capacity we rolled back to the casa in anticipation for some more fellowship and excitement.
EC: Tonight ends with two tournaments, dominos and tunk, the whole crew is playing! The morning holds our first free day to run the Island, heading to Old San Juan and the beach if the weather permits.
The whole room just erupted watching the Knicks’ game – Wonder what happened…
