ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Looking to defend their team championship, the Saint Leo women’s golf team carded a first-round-311 on Monday in the Flagler Fall Slam played at the Marsh Creek Country Club and hosted by Flagler College. The Lions are currently tied with Sunshine State Conference rival Barry University for the top spot after the first 18 holes.
Freshman Heather Petronis again put together an even-par round as she is solidly in the tournament’s top spot. Just a single stroke behind her, senior Jordan Hatch’s 1-over-73 sits solely in second place as Saint Leo holds the top two individual positions in the tournament.
Third on the team, and tied for 12th overall, senior Suzanne Ervin entered the clubhouse with a 7-over-79 and junior Goeun Lee finished day one with an 87 as she sits in 56th place.
Junior Tricia Maloney rounds out the Lions’ lineup with a opening-round-92 as she sits in 81st.
Sitting in first with the Buccaneers, the Lions sit five strokes ahead of third-place Newberry and 10 ahead of Lynn. Saint Leo claimed the team title in the 2009 edition played at the World Golf Village as then-senior Anna Riss also claimed the individual title.
Final round action will begin early Tuesday morning as the Lions look to complete another impressive round.
