FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Saint Leo women’s golf team finished the first 18 holes of the 2010 NSU Shark Invitational in 10th place of 15 teams in the tournament played at the 6,115 yard, par 72 course at PGA National.
Led by Suzanne Ervin’s 80, the Lions shot a 39-over-327 in opening round that sees Saint Leo 10 strokes from seventh place. Second on the team, and 39th overall is senior Jordan Hatch and junior Goeun Lee with a first-round 82 and right behind them, in 48th is freshman Heather Petronis who turned in a card with a first-round 83.
Tricia Maloney rounded out the Lions’ five in 57th place with an 86 after the first 18 holes.
The Lions trail the host Nova Southeastern Sharks who look to win their third consecutive NSU Shark Invitational. The Sharks carded a five-over 293 in the opening round of play.
Lurking just behind the Sharks is Sunshine State Conference rival Florida Southern. The Mocs fired a six-over 294 in the first round and are currently in second place. Rollins and West Florida both shot a 312 in the first round and are tied for third place, while Belmont Abbey rounds out the top five with an opening round of 315.
The tournament will conclude with another single round of play beginning at 8:30 am on Tuesday, Oct. 12 with a shotgun start.
