MEN’S TENNIS DROPS OPENING MATCH OF SSC TOURNAMENT TO BARRY 5-0

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The No. 7 seeded Saint Leo University men’s tennis team (4-17) fell in the quarterfinals of the Sunshine State Conference Tournament to No. 3 ranked Barry University, 5-0, Thursday morning from Patch Reef Park.

SLU had a chance to rebound from a 9-0 defeat to Buccaneers earlier this season, but once again they proved to be too strong. Barry began the day by sweeping the three doubles matches and concluded the afternoon by taking the first two matches of singles play to secure the match.

Diego Timoteo and Jose Morales gave the Lions their best chance at victory in doubles action, but their efforts were not enough as the duo fell 8-3 to the Barry tandem of Roman Werschel and Sergio Velez.

Singles action was not kind to SLU as the first two matches to finish were shutouts. The other four singles matches did not finish because the match was already secured.

The loss drops the Lions into the backdraw and will take on the No. 6 seeded Eckerd College Tritons. The match will be played Friday at Patch Reef Park with the first serve scheduled for 11:30 am.
