SOFTBALL’S MARTYN NAMED SSC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo right fielder Amber Martyn was named Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week, it was announced Monday by SSC Commissioner Michael J. Marcil.

Martyn had an outstanding week for the Green and Gold, helping lead her team to 3-0 sweep of conference foe Lynn University.

In the weekend series, Martyn batted .400 and while leading the team in RBI with eight. The right fielder from West Palm Beach, Fla. also posted a .400 on-base percentage, while slugging 1.000 during the three-game series and fielded 1.000 collecting five put-outs and one assist. She lead the team with 10 total bases and was one-for-one in the stolen bases department.

Martyn picked collected four hits on the weekend, three of which came in the first game of doubleheader last Saturday. One of those three hits including a home run in the Lions 11-2 drubbing of the Fighting Knights. She saved her biggest hit for last though, as she cranked a grand slam home run in the second game of the doubleheader in which the Lions eventually took in eight innings, 5-4.

Martyn is the second consecutive Lion to earn the honor, as her teammate Tatiana Casis was selected last week.

The Lions return to the field on Wednesday, March 18 in a doubleheader against the University of Bridgeport. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
