MEN’S TENNIS LOSES TO DIVISION I OPPONENT ARMY

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo University men’s tennis team dropped an 8-1 decision to Division I opponent Army-West Point, Saturday afternoon from the SLU Tennis Center.

The Lions had a shaky start to the day as each of the three teams in doubles fell to the Army brass, despite a pair of matches that put Army on their heels.

The Green & Gold also hung tight in singles play but managed only one victory in six attempts. The lone Lions’ win came at No. 1 singles as Pablo Chavez defeated his opponent in super tiebreaker fashion. Chavez won the first set 6-2, before dropping the second set 6-3. The super tiebreaker was also a fight to the finish, but Chavez used a late charge in the set to pull away for 10-6 victory, giving the Lions their only point.

The Lions will jump right back into Sunshine State Conference action on Sunday, March 29 as they take on the Florida Tech Panthers from the SLU Tennis Center. First serve is set for 12:00 pm.
